Mahjong

Setting out the tiles…

How to Play And tips and tricks and fun stuff!

Remove every tile by matching pairs.

  1. Find a free tile

Nothing may overlap above it, and its left or right side must be open.

  2. Match its partner

Tap two identical free tiles. The four flower tiles match one another, and so do the four seasons.

  3. Clear the table

Open new layers and remove every pair. Use Hint, Undo or Shuffle when stuck.

Picture tiles mark the flower and season families with a ✿ or ◆ badge; only badged tiles match a different picture. An open top or bottom edge never frees a tile.

Rules & scoring

The goal

Remove every tile by matching pairs.

Solitaire

Match two free tiles to remove them. A free tile has nothing overlapping above it and a whole left or right edge open. Identical faces match. The four flowers match one another, as do the four seasons, never across. Classic has 144 tiles in Easy, Standard or Hard deals; Quick has 72.

Picture tiles

In the picture sets, flower tiles wear a ✿ badge and season tiles a ◆ badge: any two with the same badge match. Unbadged pictures match only an identical picture, even a flower such as Iris. With matching codes on, F matches F and S matches S.

Connect

Match identical tiles joined by a clear horizontal and vertical path with at most two turns. The path may run one space outside the board. Adjacent tiles match, and tiles never fall.

Help and recovery

Every starting deal can be cleared, but later choices can create dead ends. Hint prefers a verified continuation; “Possible match” means only that the pair is legal. Shuffle rearranges the remaining tiles only into a verified solvable layout. Undo and Redo keep your last 100 actions.

Controls

Tap a free tile, then its partner; tap it again to cancel. A blocked tap dims unavailable tiles and says what blocks it. Learn opens a short practice table. New deal offers Classic, Quick and Connect; Restart returns to the start of this deal.

On a keyboard, Tab to the board, then use the arrow keys; Enter or Space selects and Escape cancels. H hints, U or Z undoes and R redoes.

Tips & questions

Tips

Favor pairs that uncover new layers or open long rows. With three or four identical faces free, choose the pair that opens the most.

Questions

Is there a timer? No. The optional stopwatch pauses with menus and hidden tabs.

Can I leave? Your table saves automatically. No account is needed.

What is a clean clear? One without Hint, Undo or Shuffle. Times compare only within the same layout, difficulty and help.

What about Turtle? Its wide shape is best sideways or on a big screen.
