How to play Wordydoo

The goal

Each day’s ladder hides four words, one per round: 4, 5, 6 and 7 letters long. You get six guesses for each. Longer words are worth more, and a perfect day scores 64.

The rules

  1. Guess a word. Type a real word of the right length and press Enter. A word that isn’t in the list doesn’t use up a guess.
  2. Read the tiles. Green means the right letter in the right spot. Yellow means the letter is in the word, but in another spot. Grey means it isn’t in the word. Colorblind mode in Settings adds shapes too: a corner dot on green, a corner notch on yellow.
  3. Repeated letters. A letter is colored only as many times as it appears in the answer. Greens are counted first.
  4. Climb. Solve the word or use all your guesses, and the next, longer word begins. A missed word shows its answer, and the ladder carries on: you always play all four.
  5. Score. A solved word earns 2 points per letter, plus 1 point for every guess you didn’t need. A 7-letter word solved on the third guess earns 14 + 3 = 17. A missed word earns 0. A perfect day is 64.
  6. Tiers. Your day’s score earns a tier: ☁️ Cloudy (0–15), ⛅ Peeking Through (16–29), 🌤️ Sunny Spell (30–43), ☀️ Radiant (44–55) or 🌻 Brighter than the Goldensun (56–64). Solve all four words and you’re Radiant or brighter.

The meter

The bars under the round title show each round’s guesses, one chunk per guess: grey found no letters, light yellow found a letter or two, deep yellow came close, and green solved it. The points each round earned sit beside its name. Select a finished round to look back at its guesses.

Daily and practice

  • The daily ladder is the same four words for everyone, and a new one arrives at your local midnight. It counts toward your statistics and streak once all four words are done.
  • Practice ladders are random and unlimited. They never touch your daily statistics or your daily ladder, so you can switch between them freely from New ladder.

Hard mode

Turn it on in Settings. Every letter you find must be used in later guesses of that word: greens stay in their spots, and yellows go somewhere in the word. It can change only before a ladder’s first guess, and a shared hard-mode score says “Hard mode”.

Keyboard

Type letters on your keyboard, use Backspace to delete, and press Enter to guess. The on-screen keyboard does the same, and its keys show what each letter has done on this word. After a word is finished, Enter (or any letter) climbs to the next one. After the last word, Enter (or Show final score) opens your result.

Sharing

When a ladder is done, daily or practice, Share result shows exactly what will be shared: a small picture of your four grids (colors only, never the letters) and a short text version, with your tier and score, then a row per round with a square for each guess (⬛ nothing found, 🟨 a letter or two, 🟧 close, 🟩 solved) and the round’s points. From there you can copy the text or the link, save the picture, use your device’s share sheet, or post it.

Tips

  • Start each word with common letters (E, A, R, S, T) to learn the most from one guess.
  • Longer words are worth more points and reveal more letters per guess, so a slow start on 4 letters is easy to win back.
