How to play Sprigdrop

The goal

Fit falling pieces into the board. Fill a horizontal row to clear it. The blocks above settle individually, sometimes completing more rows in a cascade. Leave room at the top for the next piece. If that piece cannot enter, the round ends with “Game Over”. The seven shapes have three to five blocks each.

Controls

Use Left and Right to move, Up or X to rotate clockwise, and Z to rotate counterclockwise. Down moves a piece one row; hold it to fall faster. Space drops and places the piece immediately. C puts a piece in reserve, once per placement.

On a phone, use the control disc: Left and Right move, Up rotates clockwise, and Down soft-drops. Hold a direction to repeat or slide your thumb to another direction. Fast drop places the piece immediately. The separate Rotate left button turns it counterclockwise; Reserve and Pause sit beside the disc.

Landing preview markers show where a drop will land. Settings lets you change keys, held-movement speed, left/right control placement, color palettes, board themes, and block styles. Choose Buttons under Touch controls if you prefer individual movement buttons. Sound and haptics are optional. Escape opens the menu; menus, hidden tabs, and Pause stop all game timers. Press Resume or a movement control when you are ready to continue. “Used” on Reserve means you must place the current piece before swapping again; “Off” means reserve is disabled for this setup.

Endless, 24 Rows, and Practice

Endless continues until there is no room for the next piece. Every eight cleared rows, gravity becomes faster, to a minimum of 60 milliseconds per row. 24 Rows ends after you clear 24 rows, using your chosen fixed speed. Practice has no automatic falling or locking: move at your own pace and press Fast drop to place the piece. Explore board lets you inspect placed blocks with the keyboard in visible Practice.

Choose Small (8×12), Standard (9×15), or Wide (12×16) and Gentle, Steady, Fast, or Extreme speed in New Game. Starting another game replaces the current round and preserves records.

Points and cascades

A simultaneous clear scores 100 times the number of rows squared. Clearing four or more rows at once earns another 400 points: a 4+ row bonus. Four rows together score 2,000; four separate single-row clears score 400 before cascade multipliers.

After the initial clear, cascade waves multiply their points by 1.5, 2, 2.5, then 3 maximum. Separate single-row waves do not earn the 4+ row bonus. Only clears score points. The latest clear stays below the board, showing its row count, points awarded, and any cascade multiplier. 4+ row clear points include the bonus; they are the total awarded for that wave.

Extra challenges

Memory hides placed blocks after 1.2 seconds. Invisible hides them immediately. The falling piece stays visible, and landing preview markers are switched off. Pausing or reloading does not reveal the stack. The final board is revealed when the round ends.

Turn off the incoming preview or reserve slot, or select Tight landing for a shorter adjustment window after contact. Normal landing allows 450 milliseconds and at most eight movement resets; Tight allows 180 milliseconds and at most two. Practice never locks on a timer.

Tips

  • Leave a route for the straight four-block piece to prepare a four-row clear.
  • Look at the blocks above a nearly complete row: they will settle into the gaps below.
  • Reserve an awkward piece, but plan ahead; you can swap only once before placing the current piece.
  • Try Gentle speed or Practice while learning the seven piece shapes.
  • A wide board offers more placement choices but needs more blocks to complete each row.

Questions

Are the colors part of the rules? No. Shapes determine placement; a full row clears regardless of its colors. Each piece also has its own botanical mark.

Can I come back later? Yes. Progress saves on this device and resumes paused. Optional accounts provide the site’s usual cloud-save features. Guests can play without a backend.

Are different challenges compared? Best scores are kept separately by mode, board, speed, visibility, preview, reserve, and landing timing. Practice does not affect records.

Results compare your score and completed 24-row time with records for the same setup. A saved best may include the round you just finished; it is not a claim of a new record.
